Nature quizzes readers on female Nobel laureates in science

An interactive page on Nature.com challenges users to name every woman who has received a science Nobel prize up to 2025.

Nature.com has launched an interactive quiz that asks visitors to name every woman who has won a Nobel Prize in physics, chemistry or physiology/medicine up to 2025. The page, published on 2 October 2026, notes that women remain a small minority among laureates since the awards began in 1901 and that the Nobel academies have altered nomination procedures to broaden the pool.

The quiz provides four starter entries and a ten‑minute time limit. Users can type a surname or first name, and clicking a revealed laureate opens a brief biography. The only fully identified laureate in the initial list is Marie Skłodowska‑Curie, who received the 1903 Physics prize (shared with Pierre Curie) for research on radiation phenomena and the 1911 Chemistry prize for discovering radium and polonium. The page also lists several prize years where a female laureate is not yet found, including Chemistry 1935, Physiology or Medicine 1947, Physics 1963, Chemistry 1964, and many others up to 2009.

Nature explains that the data will be updated with the 2026 winners once announced. The interactive format is intended to raise awareness of the gender gap and to encourage users to learn about the contributions of women scientists throughout the Nobel history.
