Discovery Health Medical Scheme said on 2 Oct 2026 that member contributions will rise between 7.4% and 8.9% for 2027, reflecting medical inflation and a focus on long‑term sustainability.

CEO Dr Ron Whelan explained that the increase is intended to balance affordability with the scheme’s ability to fund future healthcare, noting that two‑thirds of beneficiaries will see an increase below 8%.

The scheme outlined the specific hikes by benefit option: KeyCare 8.9%, Active Smart 7.4%, Smart (excluding Active Smart) 7.9%, Smart Saver 7.9%, Core (excluding Coastal Core) 7.9%, Coastal Core 8.9%, Saver (excluding Coastal Saver) 7.9%, Coastal Saver 8.4%, Priority 8.9%, Comprehensive 8.9% and Executive 8.9%.

Whelan added that Discovery Health has kept increases within a “medical inflation corridor” of CPI + 3%‑4% and that the scheme works to remove cost inefficiencies before they affect members’ contributions.
