Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Oct 2 urged a statewide movement to keep Andhra Pradesh’s rivers clean, saying waste and sewage must not enter the Krishna and Godavari. Speaking at the Swarnandhra‑Swachh Andhra Awards‑2026 in Vijayawada, he warned that river pollution harms downstream drinking water and the environment.

Naidu linked sanitation to personal hygiene, clean surroundings and mental cleanliness, recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on sanitation. He said the state is expanding sewage‑treatment plants under the Jal Jeevan Mission and treating waste as a resource to generate electricity, fertiliser and biogas.

The chief minister highlighted the deployment of Swachh Rath vehicles, e‑autos, mechanised sweepers and integrated solid‑waste centres, aiming for zero garbage. He announced a MoU with IIT Kanpur to study net‑zero initiatives and urged citizens to plant trees, adopt electric vehicles and support green energy.
