New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) – The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded that Captain Smit Machchhar be awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his “exemplary courage” after he thwarted an alleged hijack attempt by an Omani co‑pilot on a flydubai flight.
The demand was voiced at the ABVP’s two‑day All‑India office‑bearers meeting, which concluded on Saturday in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting’s statement said the captain’s actions ensured passenger safety and merited the nation’s highest peacetime gallantry honour.
ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki told reporters that this was the first time the organization’s All‑India meeting was held in Itanagar, noting the group’s six‑decade presence in the Northeast. He reiterated the call for the award, emphasizing the captain’s bravery.
