North Korea warns of renewed loudspeaker propaganda and more border weapons

Kim Yo‑Jong accused Seoul of provocation and said the North is considering pre‑emptive measures.

North Korea warned on Monday that it could restart propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts and deploy additional tactical strike means along the border with South Korea, citing recent mine blasts that injured three South Korean soldiers.

Kim Yo‑Jong, the sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said South Korea had fired warning shots and issued broadcast warnings since August, calling the actions “unreasonable pretext” and saying they had crossed a red line. She described the situation as “grave” and blamed “reckless behavior of the ROK military gangsters.”

The North’s statement follows Seoul’s formal accusation on 21 September that North‑planted mines caused the blasts, and its demand for a Pyongyang apology. South Korea’s military reported 50 border incursions this year during fortification work and said it responded with warning shots and broadcasts, but it has not yet replied to the latest North Korean warning.

Since President Lee Jae Myung took office last year, South Korea halted loudspeaker propaganda as part of a diplomatic thaw, prompting North Korea to cease its own broadcasts. Recent North Korean weapons‑testing activity has been interpreted as pressure on the United States amid renewed diplomatic overtures by former President Donald Trump.
