UAE meteorology office warns of rain, strong winds and dust through Friday

The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, convective showers and gusty winds that could lower visibility, officials said.

The UAE National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a weather bulletin on Wednesday, Oct 19, forecasting unsettled conditions across the Emirates for the next five days.

What happened

According to the bulletin, partly cloudy skies will give way to convective clouds over eastern and southern regions in the afternoons, bringing possible rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds are expected to shift from light to moderate, reaching fresh to strong at times – up to 45 km/h in mountainous areas, 40 km/h inland and 35 km/h along the coast, with gusts of up to 50 km/h on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures are projected to peak at 42 °C inland, 34‑39 °C on the coast and islands, and 28‑33 °C in the mountains. Humidity will rise overnight, creating fog or mist in some coastal and inland locations.

What the reports add

The bulletin notes that rain chances will persist through Thursday, with convective clouds extending from eastern to western parts of the country in the afternoon. On Thursday, winds could reach 40 km/h and stir up dust, potentially reducing visibility. By Friday, conditions are expected to become generally fair to partly cloudy, with occasional clouds over eastern and western areas and winds easing to about 35 km/h. The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are forecast to remain slight throughout the period.

What was said

The NCM statement said the weather pattern is being driven by an extension of a surface low‑pressure system accompanied by an upper‑air low‑pressure system.

How it came about
