Dubai – The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather outlook for the UAE, noting that temperatures will begin to decline from Wednesday after peaking at 46 °C on Tuesday. The forecast also highlights the potential for fog, mist and blowing dust, as well as rougher seas in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Temperature trends
Internal areas are expected to reach 41–46 °C, while coastal zones and islands will see highs of 36–41 °C. Mountain temperatures will range between 29–35 °C. The NCM said Tuesday would be fair to partly cloudy, with clouds developing over eastern areas that could become convective in the afternoon.
Humidity and wind conditions
Humidity will increase overnight and into Wednesday morning over some coastal areas, raising the possibility of fog or mist. Winds are forecast to be light to moderate, freshening at times, with speeds reaching 35 km/h over mountainous areas. Sea conditions will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Sea of Oman.
Weekly outlook
On Thursday, fair to partly cloudy conditions are expected, with low clouds developing in the east. Winds could reach 35 km/h, stirring up blowing dust, and sea conditions may become unsettled. Friday will be partly cloudy to cloudy over eastern and southern areas, with winds reaching 35 km/h that could again cause blowing dust. Seas will be moderate to slight in both seas. By Saturday, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will persist in eastern areas, with winds easing slightly to a maximum of 30 km/h. Seas will also become slight in both seas.
Context from recent forecasts
Earlier this month, the NCM had warned of extreme heat in Abu Dhabi, with temperatures expected to hit 45 °C on 20 September, and of fog or mist likely in western regions. A week earlier, the forecast predicted fair to partly cloudy weather on 19 September with low clouds over the east coast and a potential for mist overnight. The latest update follows a record low temperature of 18.6 °C recorded in Raknah, Al Ain on 28 September, signalling the onset of autumn.
