Trump urges Ukraine to replace Zelenskiy over diesel deal

Trump said Ukraine needs a new president after criticism of a diesel pact with Russia and recent Russian attacks in Zaporizhzhia.

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Saturday that Ukraine should replace President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, citing a dispute over a diesel supply deal with Russia.

Trump said Zelenskiy had missed opportunities to negotiate and that Ukraine needed a new leader who could "make a deal." He linked the call for leadership change to Zelenskiy’s criticism of the agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The remarks came after Russian forces struck residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, killing 20 people, including three children, and after Russia announced a partial lift of its diesel export ban following Trump’s own diesel supply announcement.
