BCJD and ABVP clash over biryani and cash distribution at Jagatsinghpur college

Supporters of rival student wings accused each other of handing out biryani and ₹200 to sway votes, prompting police deployment.

On Monday, SVM Autonomous College in Jagatsinghpur saw a heated face‑off between supporters of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), according to the New Indian Express.

BCJD members alleged ABVP workers handed out biryani and ₹200 per student to influence the upcoming campus elections, and demanded the removal of the ABVP vice‑president nominee for breaching the model code of conduct. ABVP supporters countered, saying the claim was false and that their candidate had merely shared food from his own pocket for a birthday celebration.

Police were called in to maintain order as both sides staged dharnas, and college authorities reportedly barred the use of party flags and symbols during campaigning.
