Durham College expands academic and accessibility support services
The Student Academic Learning Services and Access and Support Centre provide workshops, online tools and accommodated testing across Durham College campuses.
By Felo News Desk · Published
Durham College announced a range of academic and accessibility resources designed to help students manage coursework, build study skills and access accommodations, according to the college’s website on 8 October 2026.
What happened
The Student Academic Learning Services (SALS) now offers learning‑strategy support covering time management, organization, test preparation and procrastination. Workshops, online resources and a SALS ONLINE portal on DC Connect provide guidance on test anxiety, effective studying and staying organized. The Access and Support Centre (ASC) coordinates individualized accommodations, including accommodated testing, peer note‑taking, peer coaching and assistive technology for registered students.
What the reports add
The college notes that SALS also provides subject‑specific help in math, physics, biology, accounting, business, academic writing and language, as well as peer tutoring. ASC‑registered students can take tests at the Oshawa or Whitby Test Centres, which offer secure environments for those whose needs cannot be met in regular classrooms.
What was said
"SALS is a welcoming space where students can access supports for their courses, strengthen their academic skills, or simply find a quiet place to study," said Catherine Hayes, manager of SALS. A graduate, Nicole Gaul, added that one‑on‑one meetings with a learning specialist were "very helpful" and praised the resource for both individual and small‑group learning.
