President Donald Trump is expected to appoint former Securities and Exchange Commission chair Jay Clayton as the White House AI czar, three sources briefed on the matter told CBS News. The administration has discussed keeping Clayton in his current role as director of national intelligence while he prepares for the new post.
Trump announced last month that he would name an AI czar within three to four days after AI industry leaders met at the White House to sign voluntary safety standards. In a recent social‑media post, he wrote, "Only High I. Q. individuals need apply!" He later told reporters, "We have somebody that's extraordinary."
A White House official declined to comment on the pending appointment, stating that any personnel announcement would come directly from the president and that reporting before then would be "baseless speculation."
