Trump’s Iran war pushes US gas prices above $4 for 158 days

Gas prices have remained at $4+ per gallon for a record 158 days, a trend linked to the Iran conflict and rising oil costs.

Gas prices in the United States have stayed at or above $4 a gallon for 158 consecutive days this year, according to Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, who posted the data on X on Wednesday.

The Independent reports that the slowdown of oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz – a route that carries about 20% of the world’s oil – has helped lift crude prices, which in turn has driven pump prices higher.

Trump defended the situation on Tuesday, saying gas prices are "lower than when Biden was president," while federal data show higher averages under Biden but a longer stretch above $4 under Trump.

A Politico poll cited in the article found 29% of undecided voters would not be swayed toward the Republican ticket even if Trump cut gas prices by a dollar before the midterms.
