Supermarket shelves and gas‑pump pumps in Naples were largely empty on Tuesday after a week‑long protest by truck drivers over the high cost of diesel, which the Independent reported.

Truckers blocked loading bays at distribution warehouses on Monday, halting fresh food and other goods, a blockage reported by Sky TG24. The shortages spread to Sicily, Calabria and Puglia, with fresh pasta, cheeses, meats and produce most affected.

Transport Minister Matteo Salvini met with national trucking associations on Tuesday, promising tax credits to offset diesel price spikes and funding to modernise trucking fees. Unatras president Paolo Uggè said Salvini pledged that payments would start Wednesday and that legislation would be drafted, according to LaPresse.
