Telangana mandates fire towers and command centres for buildings over 24 m
Revised norms from Oct 7 apply to fresh applications and drop NOC requirements for shorter buildings.

Hyderabad: The Telangana fire, disaster response, emergency and civil defence department issued revised fire‑safety norms that make a fire tower and a fire command centre mandatory for any building taller than 24 metres, regardless of use.
Under the new guidelines, diesel generators may be placed in basement rooms only if the walls have a two‑hour fire‑resistance rating, and vertical slat louvres are required for such structures. Buildings under 24 metres no longer need fire no‑objection certificates, a change from earlier rules that required NOCs for commercial towers above 15 m and residential towers above 18 m.
The instructions, effective from Oct 7, apply solely to fresh applications. Director‑General Vikram Singh Mann announced the changes after consulting major builder bodies including CREDIA, NAREDCO and the Telangana Builders Federation, saying they aim to streamline approvals and improve compliance.
