Pakistan's Information Minister Tarar says PTI must choose between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Tarar criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and warned the party against a soft approach toward Afghanistan.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar told reporters in Islamabad on Monday that the Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) must decide whether it stands with Pakistan or Afghanistan.

During the press conference he criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government for focusing on the release of a jailed party founder rather than security, and accused KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi of failing to condemn cross‑border firing from Afghanistan.

Tarar also questioned the use of funds allocated to KP under the NFC Award and counter‑terrorism budgets, saying the province had declined modern vehicles offered by the Interior Ministry for police use.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that PTI’s “soft approach” toward Afghanistan was concerning and raised concerns about recent changes to the KP Police Act, alleging the new legislation would curb police powers.

PTI officials have defended the provincial police legislation as a matter of provincial authority.
