The emirate says both landowners and renters can face legal action for any lease of agricultural property.

Sharjah has reiterated a total prohibition on leasing agricultural land, covering farming and any other use, Gulf News reported on 20 October 2026.
Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, chair of the Committee for the Removal of Violations in Agricultural Areas, told Sharjah Radio and Television that leasing itself breaches the emirate’s agricultural land regulations. He said both the landowner and the tenant would be liable, and that rental contracts have no legal standing.
Enforcement will start with a warning and a violation notice; further steps may include utility disconnections and referral to the government for land withdrawal if compliance is not achieved.
