New ‘Remembering Giraffes’ Book Aims to Fund Conservation Across Africa

The latest Remembering Wildlife volume uses donated photos to support giraffe conservation, noting a 40% population drop since 1985 and recent species‑level improvements.

The Remembering Wildlife series has released its newest title, Remembering Giraffes, a photographic collection intended to raise funds for giraffe conservation projects across Africa, Standard reported on 18 October 2026.

Founder Margot Raggett said many people assume giraffes are thriving, yet populations have fallen by up to 40% since 1985. She highlighted threats such as habitat loss, fragmentation, fences, roads, and hunting for bushmeat, which isolate groups and make conservation difficult.

Contrasting this decline, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) reported in its State of Giraffe 2025 that three of the four giraffe species – Northern, Reticulated and Southern – have increased since 2020, while the Masai species remains stable.

GCF executive director Stephanie Fennessy, who wrote the book’s foreword, praised the updated numbers, saying the foundation’s efforts are paying off and monitoring is improving.

The book features donated images from leading wildlife photographers, including a cover shot by Gurcharan Roopra taken at Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya. Famous supporters such as Pierce Brosnan, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais and Russell Crowe are listed.

Since the series began in 2016, more than 62,000 copies have been sold, generating over £1.28 million for 86 projects in 36 countries. Remembering Giraffes retails for £55 and can be ordered at www.rememberingwildlife.com.
