Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, accused authorities of "danda" (stick) treatment of protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He introduced content creator Ramit Verma, who played the song "Vaishnav kan to tene kahiye" on flute as a symbolic response.
Verma, a YouTuber, said he was detained on Oct 11 and beaten by police, alleging that Bajrang Dal and RSS affiliates prompted the detention. He claimed phones were seized and formatted, and that he witnessed at least 15 women being held.
During the same briefing, Gandhi presented an NSUI activist, describing her as a "sherni" (tigress). The activist alleged that a woman constable named Chanchal Yadav assaulted her inside a police bus, grabbing her by the neck, pushing her, scratching her face, and slapping her hard.
Gandhi quoted the phrase "Dande ka jawab dande se" (a stick's answer is another stick) while condemning the alleged violence, linking it to the broader protests over the CEC’s alleged misconduct.
