Prakash Raj likens electoral roll deletions to Ganesh idol immersion
The actor called for a stop to the SIR exercise after linking it to the conclusion of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Hyderabad – Actor and activist Prakash Raj said on Saturday that the "visarjan" (immersion) of Ganesh idols is over, but the "visarjan" of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar remains. He referenced media reports that 38 lakh appeals from voters removed from electoral rolls are pending before West Bengal tribunals and could take 10‑12 years to resolve.
Raj alleged the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, originally presented as a clean‑up, is actually a deletion exercise that removes citizens from the rolls, especially daily‑wage workers who were away when Booth Level Officers visited. He questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had explained SIR in advance and demanded the exercise be stalled and scrapped.
Telangana BJP spokesperson N V Subhash criticised Raj’s remarks, saying comparing the CEC to an idol immersion crossed the line into disrespect for a constitutional institution and urging Raj to present evidence in a proper forum.
A protest organised by the Telangana People’s Front, Cockroach Janta Party and others also took place, calling for the CEC’s resignation and the repeal of the CEC Act 2023.
