Odisha deputy chief minister Pravati Parida announced on Oct. 17 that the state will concentrate on four priority areas for the all‑round development of children and women. The agenda follows a summit of the Ministry of Women and Child Development held in New Delhi on Oct. 8‑9, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired.

Under nutrition and early childhood development, the government aims to improve take‑home rations, hot meals, nutrition monitoring via the Poshan tracker and early identification of severe acute malnutrition, while upgrading anganwadi centres for preschool learning. The Mission Vatsalya child‑protection plan will prioritize family‑centred care, identify vulnerable households and strengthen rehabilitation for children leaving institutions.

Women’s safety measures include bolstering one‑stop centres and better coordination among police, health and legal services. A women’s economic empowerment framework will be rolled out in all 30 districts, tracking workforce participation, earnings and entrepreneurship.
