NDP foreign affairs critic Heather McPherson says Canada must act to end what she calls genocide in Gaza.

On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas militants killed about 1,200 civilians and took 251 hostages, an event the NDP marks as the start of a three‑year humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In a statement released on Oct. 7, 2026, NDP foreign‑affairs critic Heather McPherson said the conflict has resulted in hundreds of thousands of Palestinian deaths and widespread suffering, including child amputations.
McPherson condemned what she described as "Israel’s genocide" and accused the Canadian government of failing to act. The party called for concrete measures: sanctions, an arms embargo, trade restrictions and stronger support for international law and human‑rights obligations.
The NDP also pledged to combat hate across Canada, including antisemitism, anti‑Muslim hate and anti‑Palestinian racism, and to continue grieving the victims.
