An Israeli air attack on the al‑Asala apartment building in Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood early Saturday killed at least five people and seriously wounded six, according to al‑Shifa Hospital staff, Al Jazeera reported.
Hani al‑Shaer, reporting from Khan Younis, said the strike came without warning while residents slept. "We heard fighter jets getting louder, then three strikes followed, hitting the apartment and killing those inside," he quoted.
The blast penetrated the building, tearing through multiple floors and igniting fires that burned for about an hour before Palestinian Civil Defence crews extinguished them. Crews continued searching for missing victims as Israeli drones and low‑flying jets remained overhead.
Al‑Shifa Hospital identified four of the dead as women, including an elderly Christian woman and her daughter. The six wounded were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
