Lucca Comics and Games director Emanuele Vietina told Variety that the 60th edition of the Tuscan convention will run Oct. 28‑Nov. 1, drawing more than 200,000 fans a day and highlighting the crossover between movies and video games.
What happened
The event will take place within Lucca’s medieval walls and will showcase a range of pop‑culture attractions. Highlights include a sneak‑peek of Season 3 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” an Italian premiere of Aardman Animations’ “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom” with founder Peter Lord and director Peter Walker, and a special fan screening of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” the latest film based on Suzanne Collins’s 2025 novel.
What the reports add
Vietina noted that Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore‑eda will attend to discuss adapting Fujimoto Tatsuki’s manga “Look Back,” which blends live‑action realism with manga‑making. To mark the anniversary, the convention will host the “Lucca Legacy: A Comics and Games Story” exhibition in the 14th‑century Palazzo Guinigi, featuring archival material from Marvel legend Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Lee Falk and other American artists who found a home in Lucca in the 1970s.
What was said
“The ‘Legacy’ theme represents the heritage of what has become one of the world’s major comic conventions,” Vietina told Variety.
He added that the Percy Jackson franchise ties into the legacy theme by updating classical mythology for younger audiences, describing it as “contemporary mythology.” Vietina also emphasized that Lucca offers a formal red‑carpet in front of an early‑20th‑century opera house, a unique feature among comic conventions.
How it came about
The convention, now in its sixth decade, has grown from a niche comics fair to a broad‑scope geek‑culture festival. Vietina’s comments build on previous Felo News coverage of related entertainment crossovers, such as Xbox’s new XP division to turn games into movies and the recent Sony negotiations for a Battlefield film adaptation, illustrating a wider industry trend of blending gaming and cinematic experiences.
