Sony is in talks to acquire the film adaptation of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield video‑game series, according to Variety. The project is being shepherded by writer‑director‑producer Christopher McQuarrie, while Oscar‑winning actor Michael B. Jordan is attached as a producer and potential star.
McQuarrie, known for the recent Mission: Impossible installment, will write, direct and produce the feature. The producer lineup also includes EA’s Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon’s Carter Swan, Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, plus Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo.
Battlefield, launched in 2002 with the World War II‑set Battlefield 1942, has evolved through 18 installments; the latest, Battlefield 6, released last year and became the best‑selling shooter of the year, surpassing Call of Duty.
Sony declined comment on the negotiations. Variety notes that Call of Duty is also heading to the big screen at Paramount, directed by Peter Berg with a script by Taylor Sheridan.
