Vertigo Releasing announced it has acquired UK theatrical rights to the British coming‑of‑age comedy The State of Us, Variety reported on Oct. 19, 2026. The film stars Samuel Bottomley and Callum Scott Howells and is the directorial debut of Jake Harvey and Ollie Gardner.

After premiering in the main competition at the Edinburgh International Film Festival earlier this year, the Yorkshire‑shot feature is slated for a UK theatrical release in 2027. The story follows nineteen‑year‑old Frankie (Bottomley) as he breaks his dying friend Taylor (Howells) out of hospice for a final night of fireworks on a hilltop, a ritual honoring Frankie’s late parents.

Supporting cast includes Safia Oakley‑Green, Seamus O’Hara, Sunetra Sarker and Frances Barber. Production credits list Pippa Cross, Dylan Rees and Harvey as producers, with original music by Tom Ogden of Blossoms. Executive producers are James Scott, James Spring, Rachel Hunter, Alastair Mavor and Janette Day. Circus Studios handles worldwide sales, while Noughty Pictures presents the film in association with Screen Yorkshire, Restless Pictures, Crossday Productions, 4 8 Fourteen Films and Circus Studios.
