Black Bear announced it has acquired the rights to an untitled comedy spec script written by the duo Cassidy Alla and Read Masino, Variety reported on Oct. 13.
The logline describes a mother and daughter who unintentionally start dating the same man, prompting a "chaotic fallout" for the whole family. The writers, both seeking feature breakthroughs, are also developing a Netflix project with Berlanti/Schechter producing and Nahnatchka Khan directing.
"This script is one of the funniest and most poignant scripts we have seen in years about romance, family and the dysfunction so often associated with both," said Michael Heimler, Partner and President of Production & Operations at Black Bear. Alla and Masino added they "had so much fun writing this chaotic comedy" and praised Black Bear as a partner.
