South Korean director Park Syeyoung unveiled his new feature‑length drama “Satellite of Love” at the Asian Project Market, part of the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market, on Oct. 9, 2026, Variety reported.
What happened
The film follows a woman who has spent ten years locked inside a rural love‑motel room, waiting for a former lover. The motel’s staff stage her love life, repeatedly bringing in men to act out romances that are recorded and replayed for her. When a man claiming to be the original lover arrives, their relationship rekindles only to reveal the motel’s manipulation. Park described the narrative as a study of volatile memory and how present perception reshapes the past.
What the reports add
Variety noted that the project is the fourth collaboration between Park and the Coproduction Office’s Philippe Bober and creative producer Sylvain Cruiziat. The producers have previously worked with Park on “The Masked Monster” and “The Fin,” the latter of which screened at Locarno in 2024 and 2025. Bober, who founded the Coproduction Office, also produced Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winners “Triangle of Sadness” and “The Square.”
What was said
Park told Variety, “I hope to convey the way in which our memories are so volatile and how the present can keep altering what has happened in the past. How nothing is definite and every memory is subject to change.”
How it came about
Park’s earlier films focused on groups of characters observed from the outside. His third feature, “Who Stole My Cross?”—now in post‑production—centers on a single figure, a shift that led him to make “Satellite of Love” entirely character‑driven. The script remains in development, with the Coproduction Office backing the project as its fourth joint film.
