Canada's Leylah Fernandez moved into the third round of the Wuhan Open on Wednesday, defeating China's Shi Han 6-3, 6-4, according to The Canadian Press.

Shi, who opened the tournament by upsetting 13th seed Alexandra Eala, committed 23 unforced errors—ten more than Fernandez—and converted only one of eight break‑point chances. Fernandez, despite serving seven double faults, broke Shi three times on four opportunities.

The 24‑year‑old from Laval, Quebec, will next meet Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who won their only previous encounter at Wimbledon in 2021. Fernandez entered Wuhan ranked 25th and had captured her sixth career WTA title in Singapore the previous month.
