A seven‑bedroom, nine‑bathroom triplex in Tribeca’s historic American Thread Building has been listed for $25 million, with a 1979 Keith Haring mural serving as its headline attraction, according to the New York Post.
What happened
The 8,000‑square‑foot maisonette at 260 West Broadway, a Renaissance‑Revival landmark built in 1896, is being marketed by Trove Partners at Compass. The unit, which spans two floors, includes the black‑and‑white mural that Haring painted while a student at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). The work covers two walls, the ceiling and a cast‑iron column, and was created with a homemade mixture of black shoe polish and alcohol.
What the report adds
The Post notes that after SVA vacated the building in the early 1980s, the space became a restaurant and the mural was sealed behind sheetrock. During a 2007 renovation, the previous owners uncovered the piece largely intact. The Keith Haring Foundation later confirmed the unsigned work as an early Haring. Owner Adam Zoia, CEO of Glocap Tech, bought the loft in 2021 and has spent two years gutting and redesigning the interior, preserving the mural and even installing a custom bar in front of part of it.
What was said
Zoia told the Post, “It’s a piece of New York City’s art history that can never be recreated or moved,” adding that the mural is “one of a kind” and was painted when Haring was only 20.
How it came about
The mural’s survival is attributed to the drywall that shielded it for decades. After the building’s student‑gallery use ended, the space’s conversion to a restaurant concealed the artwork until the 2007 discovery. Zoia’s renovation prioritized protecting the piece, integrating it into the loft’s design while updating the HVAC, marble flooring and Venetian plaster throughout the residence.
