Karnataka’s Food Safety Department carried out a three‑day inspection drive of sweet‑making units and retail outlets from October 15 to 17, officials said. The operation, directed by Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, covered 286 units, collected 383 food samples and seized 30 kg of misbranded khoa used in sweets.

On the third day, October 17, inspectors visited 100 manufacturing units and retail outlets, collecting 113 samples that were sent to government labs for analysis. The department reported deficiencies such as unhygienic preparation areas, lack of medical certificates for food‑handling staff and labelling errors. Notices were issued to 15 units on that day, and over the whole drive notices were served to 40 operators.

Two operators were fined a total of Rs 7,000 for violations. The department said inspections will continue and that stricter legal action will follow against any unit that fails to meet food‑safety and quality standards.
