Apple to stock over 150 iPhone Duo demo units at flagship New York store

Apple will place large numbers of iPhone Duo demo units in select stores, including a new MagSafe stand and opening‑closure fixture.

Apple is preparing a major retail push for the iPhone Duo, slated to launch on October 23, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman as reported by 9to5Mac.

What happened

The company intends to install over a hundred demo units at its largest locations. The Fifth Avenue store in New York City will host more than 150 units across hands‑on demo stations and in‑store fixtures. The Apple Park Visitor Center will feature nearly 100 units. Other sites such as Michigan Avenue in Chicago, the Grove in Los Angeles and the Upper West Side in Manhattan will each receive roughly 30‑40 units, while smaller stores will get about 20 units each.

What the reports add

Beyond sheer quantity, Apple has designed a new MagSafe stand capable of holding an unfolded iPhone Duo alongside two standard iPhones, likely the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Some demo units will be untethered along store aisles to showcase StandBy mode and other features. A special fixture will display the Duo’s opening and closing action, making it “impossible to miss” when entering the store.

What was said

Gurman wrote in the Power On newsletter that the extensive demo rollout is meant to ensure customers can experience the foldable device despite limited launch‑day availability.

How it came about

The rollout follows Apple’s broader launch strategy, which includes a pre‑order window opening on October 16 and a personalized greeting feature for U.S. buyers announced in a recent Felo News story.
