Apple to replace AT&T iPhone 18 Pro Max units that can’t make calls
Apple will replace affected AT&T iPhone 18 Pro Max phones for free after users reported loss of cellular service.

Apple announced it will replace iPhone 18 Pro Max devices sold to AT&T customers that cannot make calls, including 911 calls, after a software issue left the phones without cellular access. The company said the fix requires a carrier‑settings patch paired with iOS 27.0.1, but the patch arrives too late for phones already affected.
According to CNET, the problem was first reported last week by owners on AT&T’s network, and MacRumors noted AT&T sent a text urging users to install iOS 27.0.1 immediately. Apple estimates thousands of customers are impacted. The company’s representative told CNET the updates are meant to prevent future occurrences and will not resolve the issue for existing devices; affected users must contact Apple Support or AT&T for a free replacement.
Reddit users said the iOS 27.0.1 update and the public beta of iOS 27.2 did not restore service. The issue appears limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 modem, unlike the iPhone 18 Pro that uses Apple’s C2 modem. Contacts at T‑Mobile and Verizon reported no similar problems on their networks.
