Hotel du Cap‑Eden‑Roc bans influencer photo shoots after guest complaints

The five‑star resort now requires prior permission for any photography on its grounds.

Hotel du Cap‑Eden‑Roc on the French Riviera has introduced a ban on influencer photo shoots after long‑time guests complained about crowds and disruption, according to a report by The Independent.

What happened

The hotel, which offers 111 rooms, suites and villas, four restaurants, a Dior‑run spa, tennis courts, a sea‑view pool and a private pontoon, noticed that visitors without overnight bookings were reserving meals only to spend hours posing for photos. Manager Sophie Volant said these guests arrived with multiple outfits, changed repeatedly and occupied restaurant space without ordering.

What the reports add

Volant told Travel Weekly that the influx of Instagrammers prompted the hotel to adopt a set of house rules similar to those in private members’ clubs. The new policy prohibits wearing bathrobes or towels in public areas, requires shirts and shoes, and bans photography and phone calls at the pool. The hotel’s website now states that “to preserve the peace and privacy of all our guests, photo shoots are not permitted on the property.”

What was said

Volant explained, “We have a lot of loyal, repeat guests who don’t see this hotel as a hotel – they see Hotel du Cap as their summer home,” and added that the rules aim to keep the resort private for those guests.

How it came about

During a trip to the United States, Volant observed house‑rule lists at private clubs and decided to adapt a similar scheme for the hotel. While enforcement can be difficult, especially with VIP guests, some patrons have welcomed the stricter approach.
