BRS leader Harish Rao urges Telangana government to drop Rs 5,420 crore power true‑up bill

Harish Rao says consumers should not bear the cost of the state’s power‑sector mismanagement.

At a press conference in Hyderabad, BRS leader T Harish Rao demanded that the Telangana government withdraw a proposed Rs 5,420 crore true‑up charge on electricity consumers. Rao argued the bill penalises consumers for the government’s failure to manage the power sector and warned that the BRS would launch a people’s movement if the decision is not reversed.

He recalled that during the previous BRS regime the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission had suggested true‑up charges of Rs 12,718.40 crore for 2016‑17 to 2021‑22, but the government chose not to pass the burden to users. Rao also alleged that the current Congress government has not added significant new capacity or major projects, and criticised a reported plan to dilute 26% of TG Transco.
