Bengaluru tunnel project stalls as land acquisition hits new roadblock
Government agencies say finding suitable land for the realigned tunnel is proving difficult, risking more postponements.

Bengaluru's twin‑tunnel road from Hebbal to Silk Board, a flagship scheme of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, is likely to encounter additional delays, New Indian Express reported on Oct 7.
After public opposition forced a route change to avoid the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, officials from the urban development department and Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B‑SMILE) say they cannot locate appropriate land for the new alignment. Potential sites include parcels along Lalbagh‑Bannerghatta Road, a fire station, educational campuses and health‑care facilities, but no agency is willing to part with property.
A B‑SMILE source warned that without land the project, funded by a Rs 9,303.66 crore HUDCO approval in 2025, will slip further behind schedule.
