Growthpoint 36 Hans Strijdom wins SAPOA Sustainability award
The Cape Town office secured two top honours, highlighting its net‑zero carbon certification and 5‑Star Green Star SA Design rating.

Growthpoint Properties’ 36 Hans Strijdom building in Cape Town received the Overall Sustainability award and the Interiors Development of the Year prize at the SAPOA Property Awards for Innovative Excellence 2026, according to bizcommunity.com.
The awards recognise the extensive transformation of the Growthpoint‑owned tower, which now houses global investment manager Ninety One’s Cape Town headquarters. Rather than demolish the structure, Growthpoint and Ninety One chose to retain and reposition the existing building, combining a major interior refurbishment with advanced sustainability interventions that reduced embodied carbon.
The project recently achieved Net Zero Carbon Level 2: Occupant Emissions Modelled certification from the Green Building Council South Africa and holds a 5‑Star Green Star SA Design rating. Timothy Irvine, head of asset management for Growthpoint’s office portfolio, said the awards demonstrate what can be achieved when sustainability and workplace design are pursued together.
