Five expatriates – four from India living in the United Arab Emirates and one from Oman – shared a total of Dh1,950,000 in consolation prizes in Big Ticket’s Series 291, according to Gulf News and Khaleej Times.

What happened

The draw, held in Abu Dhabi, awarded Dh1 million to Sunil Kumar, who held ticket 098059. Kulwant Singh, a 53‑year‑old truck driver from Punjab, received Dh500,000. Two participants each won Dh100,000: Muhammed Ijas C., a 30‑year‑old engineer from Kerala residing in Ajman, and Setvan Kumar Chauhan, also originally from India. The fifth winner, Ajith Kumar Vannarath, a 54‑year‑old document controller from Kerala now living in Oman, collected Dh250,000. The prizes will be divided among the groups that purchased the tickets together.

What the reports add

Gulf News listed the winners’ ages, occupations and places of residence, noting that Ajith Vannarath has been in Oman for ten years and that his group of ten chose their number at random. Khaleej Times added that Kulwant Singh lives in Dubai’s Jebel Ali since 2008, that he watches Big Ticket videos online, and that he and his friends buy tickets together each month. Both outlets reported the same prize totals and ticket numbers for Sunil Kumar and the other winners.

What was said

Ajith Vannarath told Gulf News, “I was very, very happy when I found out that we had won. We have been trying our luck together for a long time, so receiving that news was a wonderful feeling.” Khaleej Times quoted Kulwant Singh saying, “I was very happy when I found out that we had won. We purchase tickets together every month, so it was a wonderful feeling to finally receive the good news,” and added that he plans to use his share for his family and a home.

How it came about

Big Ticket’s weekly e‑draws have attracted expatriate participants across the UAE for months. Earlier Felo coverage noted similar wins, such as a Dubai Indian expat who won Dh25,000 in September’s first draw (Dubai Indian expat wins Big Ticket) and four expatriates who each won Dh25,000 in a September Abu Dhabi draw (Abu Dhabi Big Ticket draw sees four expatriates win Dh25,000 each). The continued participation of groups buying tickets together reflects the growing popularity of the raffle among the expatriate community.
