Everton owners explore sale less than two years after takeover

The Texas‑based Friedkin Group announced it is looking at investment options, including a possible sale of its 94.1% stake in Everton.

Everton's American owners, the Friedkin Group, said on Friday they are exploring new investment options, including the potential sale of a controlling interest in the Premier League club. The group, which bought a 94.1% stake from Farhad Moshiri for a reported £400 million in December 2024, said the club is now on a more stable footing after a period of financial uncertainty.

Everton moved from Goodison Park to the 53,000‑capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium for the 2025‑26 season under the Friedkin Group’s custodianship. The club has finished 13th in each of the last two Premier League campaigns under manager David Moyes.

Moyes, who learned of the possible sale on Friday, told reporters he was "pretty surprised" and noted the short‑timeframe since the owners arrived. He said the summer transfer window had been difficult, with a collapsed deal for striker Folarin Balogun leaving Everton with only Thierno Barry as a recognised forward.

The Friedkin Group said it will only consider parties it believes can be "the right stewards" to build on the momentum established since taking control.
