Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday that 40 percent of its LED lighting replacement project for Metro stations and facilities is complete. A total of 17,880 of the planned 44,700 LED units have been installed, with the work slated for completion in 2027.

The upgrade, carried out with Keolis MHI, aims to lower electricity consumption, maintenance needs and carbon emissions. The first two phases covered footbridges and passenger areas on the Red and Green Lines; the third phase now targets car parks, tunnels, extension buildings and power distribution stations.

RTA rail‑maintenance director Dawood Alrais said the new LEDs can operate up to 11 years, compared with about one year for conventional bulbs, avoiding 12‑13 replacement cycles and saving six to seven labour hours per unit.
