Dubai RTA outlines retest fees and mandatory training for failed driving tests

The RTA details fees, required lessons and deadlines for learners who fail their road test in Dubai.

According to Gulf News, learners who fail their Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) road test must complete four mandatory practical training sessions before they can book another attempt.

The standard retake fee is Dh220, comprising a Dh200 road‑test charge and a Dh20 knowledge and innovation fee. In addition, drivers must pay for the four compulsory retraining sessions, with costs varying by institute. A VIP test service is priced at Dh2,620, while an instant test service for eligible applicants costs Dh420.

Retests can be booked online via the RTA website or through the driving institute. After logging in with an Emirates ID, passport or UAE Pass, applicants receive an OTP, enter their permit number and select a new date. Payment is made online and confirmation is sent by SMS and email.

Applicants may wait up to 14 working days for a new appointment after completing training. They can reschedule up to 24 hours before the test, or move to an earlier slot for an extra Dh320. Missing a scheduled test requires a new booking and payment of the test fee again.

Important deadlines include a six‑month limit: if a learner does not take a knowledge, yard or road test within six months of the last appointment, their training file is suspended. Tests booked on public holidays may attract additional institute fees, and licences not issued within one year of passing must undergo an evaluation test.
