Dubai records 196,000 new vehicle registrations in first half of 2026

The RTA says the surge reflects rapid urban expansion and plans to expand testing centres and digital services.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recorded 196,042 first‑time vehicle registrations between January and June 2026, averaging more than 1,000 new registrations per day, Gulf News reported.

What happened

The registrations totalled over 32,000 a month, a rise attributed to population growth, urban expansion and heightened economic activity across the emirate.

What the reports add

RTA CEO Ahmed Mahboob said the increase signals sustained demand for registration and inspection services and highlighted the authority's rollout of an integrated service system that uses advanced technologies, smart verification and AI‑driven inspection equipment.

What was said

Mahboob told Gulf News that the RTA is expanding vehicle testing centres from 30 to 35 by 2030 to meet demand and that digital platforms are improving transaction speed and customer satisfaction.

How it came about

The surge follows Dubai's broader push to modernise transport infrastructure, including recent upgrades such as the conversion of Al Satwa roundabout to a signalised intersection, which the RTA says will cut journey times by half.
