Critical Resources deploys management team to Suriname gold projects
The ASX‑listed junior will hold 90% of the projects once contracts are finalised, while consultants map structural controls across the Guiana Shield.
By Felo News Desk · Published
Critical Resources announced that its management team has arrived on the ground in Suriname to fast‑track legal and technical reviews of the Gonini and Greenstars gold projects, the company said on Wednesday.
What happened
The company, an ASX‑listed junior explorer, said it is conducting due‑diligence activities across the two recently secured tenements, which together cover 199 km² of granted mining rights in the Guiana Shield. Critical Resources will hold a 90 per cent interest in the projects once the deals are completed. Management is meeting vendors, local communities and officials while assembling a field crew to plan the first field programs.
What the reports add
Critical Resources has hired specialist consultants GexplOre to carry out a structural and geophysical interpretation of mineralisation controls at Gonini, Greenstars and the surrounding 6,000 km² greenstone belt. GexplOre previously provided structural insights for G Mining Ventures’ Oko West project in Guyana and Founders Metals’ Antino project in Suriname.
What was said
Managing director Tim Wither told SMH, “Suriname is a relatively unknown but proven gold jurisdiction and is attracting capital from some of the world’s leading gold investors.”
How it came about
Gold accounts for almost 80 per cent of Suriname’s exports, generating US$2 billion in 2024. Recent corporate activity includes Gold Fields’ C$77 million investment in Founders Metals, La Mancha’s 19.9 per cent stakes in Miata Metals and Greenheart Gold, and Zijin Mining’s US$360 million acquisition of the Rosebel mine in 2023. Critical Resources’ projects sit near Newmont’s Merian mine, 66 km away, in a region historically mined for 150 years.
