CMDA contractors press for release of pending payments to avoid project freeze

The association warned that delayed payments could stall civic works and harm labourers.

Chennai: The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) Contractors Association has lodged a memorandum with the CMDA Member Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, urging the Tamil Nadu government to release pending certified payments immediately. The association says contractors have already mobilised labour, machinery and borrowed funds to complete large portions of scheduled work, but delayed disbursements are causing acute financial strain, threatening wage payments, equipment rentals and rising bank interest.

The group cautions that suspending projects now would trap capital, increase storage costs, spark supplier disputes and drive up overall project expenses, affecting not only contractors but also thousands of daily‑wage labourers and allied vendors.

It requests prompt disbursement of all certified bills and allocation of sufficient funds to keep projects running without interruption.
