Music Box Films announced it has acquired North American rights to the documentary “Steal This Story, Please!” and will launch the title on all major digital platforms on Oct. 20, according to Variety.
What happened
The documentary, which follows independent journalist Amy Goodman, premiered at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival and later won audience awards at 11 festivals, including Mill Valley, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara and Woodstock. After a limited theatrical run that opened at New York’s IFC Center in April, the film grossed close to $1 million domestically, earning over $30,000 in its opening weekend and remaining in the IFC program for 12 weeks. It subsequently screened in more than 50 U.S. markets, becoming one of the year’s top‑performing non‑fiction releases.

Variety notes that the film was initially self‑distributed by its makers and that theatrical booking support came from Michael Tuckman’s mTuckman Media. The distributor said the documentary will also be issued on DVD and Blu‑ray, with the physical‑media release date still to be announced. A live online screening with a Q&A featuring Goodman, director Tia Lessin and co‑director Carl Deal is scheduled for Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
