Carrie episode hints at Elon Musk with a star‑gazing line
In episode 3, characters discuss stars and Mars in a dialogue that Mashable says resembles a veiled jab at SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

Prime Video’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie includes a moment that Mashable interprets as a subtle dig at Elon Musk.
What happened
In episode 3, Carrie (Summer H. Howell) leaves a party with Tommy (Joel Oulette). After drinking, they lie on the grass, look at the night sky and talk about stars and Mars. Carrie says, “When I was little my dad said wherever I went, I could always find my way home by the stars… It’s just the stars. That’s all you really need.” Tommy replies, “That’s Mars. They say we’re gonna go there one day… People on Mars.”
What the report adds
Mashable notes that the exchange mirrors Musk’s public goal of sending a million people to Mars by 2025, a vision he has repeated in multiple interviews. The outlet suggests the line could be a warning about Musk’s “space‑conquering desires.” It also references King’s historic clashes with Musk, implying the author might approve of the jab.
What was said
“It’s amazing,” Carrie says, and Tommy adds, “It’s terrifying. I read all The Martian Chronicles… ‘Earth men have a talent for ruining big and beautiful things.’” Mashable reports these lines without quoting any Musk spokesperson.
How it came about
The scene fits the show’s 21st‑century setting, where internet and social‑media pressures amplify Carrie’s bullying, according to Mashable’s analysis.
