Canada cites evidence of India-linked security concerns
Carney told the New York Times Canada holds evidence of Indian-linked security threats but cannot guarantee future incidents.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told the New York Times that Canada has “some evidence” of security concerns involving India, the outlet reported on October 1. He said increased security cooperation with New Delhi has helped address the issue, yet Canada cannot guarantee that further India‑linked crimes will not occur on Canadian soil.
Carney’s comments come as Ottawa works to repair relations after the 2023 killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, which former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau linked to possible Indian government agents. Indian officials have denied involvement. Canadian authorities have also linked Indian agents to a broader pattern of alleged criminal activity, including homicide, arson, extortion and intimidation, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
While no new charges were announced, Carney noted that high commissioners have been restored and security and law‑enforcement cooperation has resumed, alongside economic and energy talks.
