Air Chief Marshal A P Singh told reporters on 3 October that Pakistan’s reported collaboration with China on a fifth‑generation fighter jet is a cause for concern for India, though he does not view it as a decisive threat.

What happened

During the Indian Air Force’s annual press conference ahead of Air Force Day, Singh said reports indicate Pakistan may acquire a fifth‑generation aircraft in the near future and that some Pakistani pilots are already training in China. He added that India must accelerate the induction of its own fifth‑generation platform and push ahead with the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

What the reports add

DNA India reported that Singh emphasized the need for “integration” and said the IAF currently has the capability to deal with the perceived threat. He rejected the notion that the situation is a “no‑go” scenario, stating, “I wouldn’t agree with that.” The outlet also noted that Singh’s comments came at a time when India is expanding its own indigenous fighter development.

What was said

Singh told DNA India, “Reports suggest that Pakistan may acquire them in the near future. There are even reports that their pilots are already undergoing training in China. Undoubtedly, this is a cause for concern. However, is it a no‑go situation? I wouldn’t agree with that.”

How it came about

The remarks follow ongoing regional defence developments, including India’s push for the AMCA programme and heightened scrutiny of China’s military collaborations. Earlier this month, India issued an advisory warning citizens against joining Russian armed forces, reflecting broader security concerns in the sub‑continent.
