BBC orders James Blunt to delete post promoting £1,695 tweed suit

BBC and Studio Lambert acted after being alerted by The Mail on Sunday.

The BBC instructed singer James Blunt to remove an X post that promoted a £1,695 tweed suit featured in the opening episode of Celebrity Traitors, the outlet reported.

Blunt, 52, posted a BBC publicity shot of himself in the suit on X days before the series launch, linking to tailor Barrington Ayre, which supplied the garment. The post included the caption, "The name's Blunt. James Blunt."

BBC editorial guidelines prohibit talent from exploiting BBC programmes or brands for commercial promotion. A BBC insider said the corporation acted as soon as it was alerted, speaking to all parties before the post was taken down.

Studio Lambert, the production company, and the BBC were unaware of the post until The Mail on Sunday contacted them. Barrington Ayre’s managing director Tom Wharton said there was no formal commercial relationship with Blunt and declined to disclose payment details.

A spokesperson for Blunt did not comment.
