The British Columbia Conservatives say their election platform will create $2.6 billion in new revenue over three years and reduce the provincial deficit to $10.8 billion by 2030, the Canadian Press reported.

The party projects GDP growth of 2.5% in 2027, 2.8% in 2028 and 3.2% in 2029, which it says would generate the additional revenue compared with the NDP’s forecast.

Spending reductions are to come from a hiring freeze for outside staff, cutting consultants and reviewing ministry budgets, which the platform estimates will save about $1.8 billion over four years, with the hiring freeze and attrition adding roughly $2 billion.

The New Democrats have criticised the Conservatives, arguing that proposed income‑tax cuts and a PST exemption on alcohol would cut revenues by more than $4.3 billion annually and raise the deficit by 33%.
