With 16 days left before the November 3 midterm elections, a network poll released Sunday shows U.S. Democrats holding a nine‑point lead on the generic ballot, while several Southern Senate contests remain closely contested, Gulf News reported.
The NBC News Decision Desk poll of 1,492 registered voters, conducted October 8‑16, put President Donald Trump’s approval at 39 percent, according to NBC chief data analyst Steve Kornacki on Meet the Press. Kornacki said the poll’s generic‑ballot advantage for Democrats is nine points.
On CBS’s Face the Nation, an anchor noted that CBS estimates Democrats have the edge to take the House and need four seats to capture the Senate. A CBS News/YouGov poll in Texas shows Democrat James Talarico leading Republican Ken Paxton 51‑49, with Talarico performing better among independents and financially‑strained voters, said CBS elections executive Anthony Salvanto.
Salvanto also warned that Democrats must defend vulnerable seats, citing Michigan as a toss‑up and Maine’s Republican Senator Susan Collins as “neck‑and‑neck” in a close race.
Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, speaking on Meet the Press, said the party can win in the South and that the road to a Democratic majority lies there. He urged an end to the war, removal of tariffs, and health‑care reform.
Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma called for voter turnout, stating, “Only God knows what actually will happen, but every single voter needs to show up to actually vote.”
On CNN’s State of the Union, a Washington Post poll was cited indicating 58 percent of respondents say Democrats would check Trump’s agenda.
